'My Desk Lamp' by Michael Penny

cantilevers over my work

its single unblinking eye

that I do not expect will be kind

as it sees everything

leaving no shadows

to hide my faults.

It will note

but not correct;

instead it stares

until I do get it right

and allow myself to switch

it off. I know it cares.
