It’s amazing
how so many injuries
that feel like the end of the world
don’t even leave a scar
That the wounds on my hands
from the time I scraped them
on the sidewalk
left behind no blemishes
Even though I recall
sobbing my eyes out
and in the most pain
I ever thought I could be
Yet there are nicks on my fingers
from things I can’t even remember
leaving their mark on me
in a way they couldn’t in my memories
